Overcome Bible Study Overwhelm [Part 3]
"Mystery creates wonder. And wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand."
— Neil Armstrong
Has the winter crud infiltrated your home? It has had a white-knuckle grip on me for going on two weeks. So, I apologize for going MIA for a bit. I'm back and sucking down cough drops like they're going out of style.
As our series was saying...
Have you ever opened your Bible and thought, “Wait… did I miss a chapter? How does this connect with that?” It’s like being handed a mystery novel—except someone ripped out a few pages and wrote the clues in another language. 😅
Guess what? You’re not failing; you’re discovering! The Bible is rich and layered, and it’s okay if it doesn’t all make sense on the first (or fifth) read.
Here’s what helps me keep going when the plot feels a little too thick:
- Invite the Author to the Table — Before you dive in, pray. Ask God to help you understand what He’s saying. He wrote the Word, and He wants you to get it.
- Treat It Like a Puzzle — Every verse is a piece, and the more you explore, the clearer the picture becomes. No, you won’t see the whole masterpiece right away, but each "aha!" moment brings you closer.
- Ask ALL the Questions — Seriously. "Who’s speaking? Who’s listening? What’s going on?" Jot them down. God isn’t afraid of your curiosity—He actually loves it! Then bring those questions you're having difficulty answering to our private learning community, Biblical Context Matters. We'd love to help you dig deeper!
- Celebrate the Small Wins — Understood a parable today? Learned what a cubit is? (Hint, your forearm is involved.) Finally, you connected a prophecy with its fulfillment? That’s huge! Every step forward is progress.
And hey, if you’re still scratching your head, remember this:
The Bible isn’t a book you conquer; it’s a relationship you grow into. Read that again.
It’s about spending time with God and letting Him speak to your heart—even when the "whys" and "hows" aren’t clear yet.
Action Step: Hit reply and share your biggest "mystery moment" in Scripture. What’s been confusing you lately? Let’s solve it together (or at least laugh about it while we try)! 💕
We’re in this together, one verse at a time. You’ve got this!
With love and lots of grace,
P.S. I am developing a short "how-to" booklet on studying Biblical context. This will be available in mid-March. Will you tell me which format you'd prefer it in?
