Overcome Bible Study Overwhelm [Part 2]
Did you panic? We want to help!

January has lasted 47 weeks. 😫 The cold has overstayed its welcome in WV, and I've officially begun my countdown to spring break. So, as I sat wrapped up in a blanket yet another evening, wondering just how high my electric bill would be this month, I decided to spend some time scrolling through social media. It was also a great way to ignore the mountain of laundry calling my name... cause multiple layers, you know.

Mid-scroll, I came across this gem of a video, of this precious little one working so hard... and it made me think about how so many of us react to reading the Bible.

Did you panic and give up on your Bible reading?

We often start strong. January 1st was just 30 days ago. It's day one of our goals and intentions for the year.

As the days have turned into weeks and now months, we often experience a little hiccup over a misunderstanding of a difficult passage, and suddenly the only thing we can focus on is our lack of ability to understand everything!

We find it easy to just give up entirely because we panic and think ALL is lost.

If you're wide-eyed & nodding your head, keep reading.

Recently, I polled our community about their ability to be consistent in the Word and what overwhelms them most. I was amazed that a whopping 74% struggle to know where to begin or have too many questions to even start reading their Bibles.

We start with great intentions, only to get caught up on a reference that is completely foreign to you about cubits, genealogies, and ancient city names you can’t even pronounce. Suddenly, catching up on that mountain of laundry feels way more achievable than understanding Leviticus.

With all motivation lost, you throw up your hands (or down the cup of coffee, in the adorable case above) and figure all is lost. I've been there, my friend! 🙋

But I want to assure you that there's hope and a way to become confident in spending time in God's Word.

Do you want 2025 to be different, too?

Here’s a little encouragement for those moments when you’re ready to throw in the towel (or the commentary):

  1. Remember Why You Started — You’re not just reading for knowledge; you’re getting to know the heart of God. That’s worth every “what does this even mean?!” moment.
  2. Take It One Bite at a Time — You don’t need to tackle the whole Bible in one day. Start with small, digestible chunks. Even five focused minutes can plant seeds of wisdom and peace.
  3. Embrace the "Aha!" Moments — That feeling when a confusing passage finally makes sense? It’s like finding the last piece of a puzzle. Hang on for those moments – they’re worth the wait!
  4. You Don’t Have to Go Solo — Lean on your community. Whether it’s your small group, our online ministry, or even a friend you text when you’re stuck, we’re here to climb the mountain with you.

God doesn’t expect perfection; He’s looking for your heart. So keep showing up, even on the messy, confusing days. He’s not just at the finish line – He’s walking with you every step of the way.

Action Step: Reply to this email and share a Bible passage that’s challenged you recently. I’d love to help you unpack it next week – because we’re in this together! 💖

With love and coffee-fueled prayers,

WHENEVER YOU'RE READY,
